Group support involves quitting with a group of smokers led by a professional stop smoking advisor.
Your local stop smoking service may offer group support, and if they do, studies show it is often preferable to one-to-one support. Trying to give up as part of a group provides an extra level of motivation, because if you smoke during the week you are letting the other people down as well. It's not group therapy, and it's not like an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. The focus is on giving up smoking and sharing experiences with the group in a friendly supportive atmosphere.
