Nicotine chewing gum is a form of Nicotine Replacement Therapy. It's a type of gum (usually sugar-free) containing nicotine which is slowly released as you chew on it.
1. The first piece of advice about nicotine gum is a little counter-intuitive: don't chew it non-stop! If you do the nicotine will come out too quickly before your mouth has had a chance to absorb it. Instead, chew it a few times then shift the gum to the side of your mouth and leave it there for ten seconds or so. Then repeat the process.
2. Chew the gum before you start getting cravings. It takes about twenty minutes for the nicotine to get into your system, unlike smoking a cigarette, which takes a matter of seconds. So you might want to chew one piece an hour no matter how you are feeling, and perhaps more at difficult times.
4 Chew the nicotine gum alongside using nicotine patches. Using both together will reduce your cravings and withdrawal symptoms and dramatically improve your chances of stopping smoking for good.
5. Try the 4-milligram to begin with.
6. Buy the cheapest one you can find that you don't mind the taste of.
