Menu | A to Z of Stopping Smoking |
Distraction can bea very useful tool to stop you dwelling on your desire for a cigarette. Nicotine tricks your brain into thinking you are doing something useful (even though you're not), so you can do other things to give you a similar feeling of satisfaction.
There are many different activities you can do to distract you from your desire for a ciagrette. In the short term, these can be as simple as playing a game on your phone or counting the number of objects in the room. You may want to get on with some household cleaning, or watch a DVD boxset. You might be able to find a longer term hobby or a sport that stops you thinking about smoking for a period of time.
