Thinking like a non-smoker involves a shift in your identity - the way in which you view yourself - from someone who is an active smoker to someone who doesn't smoke at all.
As long as you consider yourself a smoker you are probably at risk of relapsing. Thinking of yourself as a non-smoker means that you no longer identify as a smoker. So for example, when someone you don't know offers you a cigarette you can simply reply that you are not a smoker.
